FOR POOLS WITHOUT SKIMMERS

SP-15000 POOL SYSTEM

SP-30000 POOL SYSTEM

Your new Filter Foam Pool Filtration System, featuring the Power Disk, which allows a chlorine-free bathing experience, comes complete with the appropriate number of copper-zinc disks already in the filter housing. Read ALL instructions BEFORE installing!

Precautions
o Make sure all pumps and timer switches are in OFF position before beginning.
o DO NOT USE THIS SYSTEM WITH COPPER PLUMBING.
o DO NOT USE THIS SYSTEM IF BAQUACIL HAS BEEN USED IN THE POOL DURING THE PAST 3 YEARS without consulting your dealer first.
o Use only PVC Solvent Cement, following directions on label.
o The Pool Filtration System should be installed above water level whenever possible. If it has to be positioned below water level, a drain valve must be installed.

Where to Install
The Pool Filtration System is designed for permanent installation in the return line of your swimming pool. Choose a site in the return line where the pool filter can be installed in a vertical position. The pool filter must always be installed before the heater, pool cleaner, valves, etc., and/or after the sand/sediment filter.
If your pool is equipped with a solar system, it may be necessary to install a Hi Flow Kit. This kit can be installed if your pool filter is not getting adequate flow and/or pressure through the system. Your pool filter may be installed in existing PVC plumbing but will require a union and/or other fittings. The pool filter comes complete for installation with 2" or 1 1/2" PVC plumbing.

TYPICAL INSTALLATION WITH HEATER

TYPICAL INSTALLATION WITHOUT HEATER

Basic Plumbing Installation

If you have 2" or 1 1/2" PVC Pipe:
If the pool is plumbed with 2" PVC pipe, be certain the pump, filter, and heater all have 2" inlet and outlet fittings. If any part of the equipment has less than 2" fittings or pipe, then a minimum of 6" x 1 1/2" PVC must be installed directly into the inlet side of the pool filter using the enclosed 2" x 1 1/2" reducer bushings. This will build pressure directly into the pool filter insuring proper operation. Continue with 2" PVC pipe on the outlet side of the pool filter.

If you have 2" PVC Pipe:
Simply glue both sides of the slip tee at the base of the pool filter to the return line using PVC Solvent Cement. Be sure arrows on base of filter point in the direction of the water flow returning to the pool. Allow cement to dry. Installation is now complete.

If you have 1 1/2" PVC Pipe:
Remove two 2" x 1 1/2" slip reducer bushings packed inside the filter and glue them into 2" slip tee on base of filter housing. Finish installation by gluing both sides of slip tee into 1 1/2" return line. Be sure arrows on base of filter point in the direction of the water flow returning to the pool. Allow cement to dry.

90° Elbows
Plumbing a 90° elbow directly into the inlet side of the pool filter may cause turbulence inside the elbow which will prevent water from being scooped into the pool filter. A minimum of 6" length of PVC pipe should be installed between the 90° elbow and the inlet side of the pool filter.

Operating the System

Start-up
For initial start-up of the Filter Foam Pool Filtration System, shock the pool with chlorine as normal. This jump-starts the pool filter, giving it time to create the necessary copper levels in the water. THIS IS THE ONLY TIME CHLORINE WILL BE USED. The pool filter will then remove the chlorine from the water over the next few days.
Turn Control Valve to maximum position (#5). In this position, the maximum amount of water is flowing through the Power Disks. Pool is now ready for use.

Normal Use
Four days after starting up the pool filter, test the pool's parameters (see below) and adjust the flow of water through the Power Disks accordingly. You may need to turn the Control Valve to a lower number (so less water is flowing through the Power Disks) to regulate parameters.
Thereafter, test the parameters weekly or as often as necessary. Circulate water through your pool an average of eight hours daily to assure that water has the necessary contact time with the Power Disks.

Testing the Parameters
For optimum pool performance, the following standard parameters should be maintained. These can be measured with pool testing kits.

pH Level
The pH level of the pool's water must be between 7.2 and 7.6. Potassium monopersulfate can be used in overly alkaline pools where pH is above 7.6. Soda ash can be used in overly acid pools where pH is below 7.2.

Alkalinity
The alkalinity of the pool's water must be between 100 - 150 ppm and preferably at 130 ppm.

Calcium
The calcium level of the pool's water must be between 200 - 300 ppm and preferably at 250 ppm.

Copper
The copper level in the pool's water should be between .5 and 1 ppm. This level is regulated by how much water is flowing through the Power Disks. To lower copper levels in pool's water, adjust Control Valve to a lower number as this will decrease water flowing through Power Disks. To raise copper levels, adjust Control Valve to a higher number to increase the volume of water flowing through Power Disks. To test for copper, you must use a special copper-testing kit that removes zinc from the water prior to the test. Because the Filter Foam Pool System uses a copper-zinc filtration media, the zinc in the media will skew the test results if it is not removed first.

Maintaining the System

Shocking your pool
Except for the initial start-up, any time you shock your pool, be sure to use an organic, non-chlorine shocking agent, such as potassium monopersulfate. Use at the rate of 1 pound of potassium monopersulfate per 10,000 gallons of water. (Brand names for potassium monopersulfate include Oxyburn and Oxybrite.)
High winds, heavy rains, and/or heavy bather load may temporarily tax the Pool System beyond its limits. When these conditions occur, shock the pool (as indicated above) to prevent greening. The pool owner may choose to shock the pool at regular intervals as a preventative measure.

Nitrates
Nitrates are a serious nuisance as they will turn pool water green. If you get nitrates in your water, you will likely have to drain the pool and refill. Common sources of nitrates are herbicides, pesticides, and fertilizers. When applying these agents to your property, avoid the pool area so nitrates are not introduced to the pool water.

Climate
The Filter Foam Pool Filtration System with Power Disks cannot be allowed to freeze. If pool is subject to freezing, remove disks and drain housing. If Power Disks are still usable, keep them submerged in water until ready for reuse. (Air will oxidize the media and destroy its efficiency.)

How to Refill
When Power Disks are spent, they can be easily replaced with new disks, available from your dealer. Power Disks are recyclable.060098Filter Foam Pool Filtration System Owner's Guidefeaturing the Power Disk
